Cllr David Simpson (centre) and Cllr Myra Billings (left) say "Don't let your area become a ghost town, support your local shops."

Local Liberal Democrat Councillors have launched a 'Shop Local' campaign to support our local shops and businesses during the recession.

Shopping locally helps to maintain our variety of local shops and our vibrant local communities. It also saves you time, petrol, parking costs or bus fares.

Cllr David Simpson said, "It is very important in a recession that we support small local businesses to keep our communities alive. We are lucky to have so many local shops we can use in our area."

Nationally, Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor Vince Cable has been ahead of the government on the need to provide help for small businesses and has been pressing for action to increase lending.
